Stranraer Oyster Festival 2017

Home » Event » Stranraer Oyster Festival 2017

15 to 17th September 2017

To celebrate the annual harvesting of Loch Ryan`s unique Scottish Native Oysters, the first ever Stranraer Oyster Festival takes place in September 2017.

Not too many people know that Loch Ryan is host to one of the largest oyster beds in Scotland. The beds contain  an estimated 1 million oysters and dates back to 1701 when a Royal Charter was granted. The Loch Ryan Oyster Bed is the only one in Scotland to be self-sufficient and harvesting is carefully managed to provide potential for further growth in oyster numbers.

The Oyster Festival will be spread over three days and details of the full and varied programme can be found on their website.

Some of the highlights of the three days are given below. Don`t miss this opportunity to find out about our oysters, join is the fun and also discover South West Scotland.
