Our Scottish Castles Route lets you explore over 250 miles of delightful and varied countryside. Steep yourself in history as there are well over a dozen castles and abbeys to visit on your journey.
Take several days to savour the wide diversity of this part of Scotland.
You might want to extend your route northwards from Portpatrick up the west coast towards Ayr and check out even more treasures such as Dunure Castle and Culzean Castle.
Our route includes some of our areas best scenery taking in such gems as magnificent Dalveen Pass in the Lowther Hills and the additional western section between Ballantrae and Girvan heading towards Culzean where the road hugs the coastline with great views of Ailsa Craig.
