How did the ordinary people of Upper Nithsdale live and work in times past? All this and more can be found in the town’s fine 18th century tolbooth. A free audiovisual presentation and gallery investigation take you on a tour, revealing the fascinating story of Upper Nithsdale.

Sanquhar Tolbooth Museum is now open Tues – Sat  10am  – 1pm, 1.30 – 4pm  (Seasonal museum – closes 31 October). Book your free visit either online at or by calling the Midsteeple Box Office Tue – Sat 10am to 1pm on 01387 253383.

Accessibility: Sanquhar Tolbooth Museum is accessed via a flight of stone steps. Public toilets are available 150m from the museum.
