Kippford is a popular holiday and sailing village that stretches along the banks of the Urr Water. Original white washed shipwrights cottages line the waterfront and the shore road takes the casual walker along to delightful shell beaches.
Originally know as Scaur, Kippford is home to the Solway Yacht Club who hold a sailing regatta and cadet week here annually. The yacht club pontoon and vessels moored in the Urr estuary are a modern reminder of Kippford’s boatbuilding heritage.
Kippford is backed by the forested Mark Hill, known locally as the Muckle. The forest has a network of paths that link Kippford with Rockcliffe, a 1 mile walk across land managed and maintained by the Scottish National Trust. These lovely walks, a pretty shell beach, beautiful views across the Solway Firth towards the Lake District and to the West Glen Isle and Screel combine to make this a popular holiday destination.
The village also has two waterfront pubs serving local ale and food, a chandlery and slipway, a village hall, a coastal themed gift shop which also sells coffee, cake and ice cream, a family run craft pottery and a family friendly nine hole golf course and tea room. The village is also proud to have it’s own RNLI station. RNLI Kippford operates a D-Class Inshore Lifeboat.
