ballantrae on SWC300

Ballantrae is a delightful village on the South Ayrshire Coast in the area known as Carrick.

The village is on our South West Coastal 300 Route and makes an ideal place to explore and perhaps stay along the way.

Ballantrae is renowned for its annual food festival.

For those interested in angling, Ballantrae is at the mouth of the River Stinchar which is one of our area`s top salmon fishing rivers. Details of salmon fishing here can be found at Stinchar Fishing

Looking out to sea from Ballantrae, the view is somewhat dominated by Ailsa Craig with its distinctive shape. Ailsa Craig is home to a staggering 36,000 pairs of  gannets. Guillemots, razorbills, and puffins can also be seen. The island is also the source of granite for the world`s best curling stones. Boat trips are available to Ailsa Craig from Girvan, about 20 minutes further up the coast.

A delightful feature of Ballantrae is its putting green situated on the shore. There is also a Garden Centre with a cafe and information point at the northern end of the village.
