Visit South West Scotland (VSWS) is a tourism group member of the South of Scotland Destination Alliance (SSDA).  And if you are a member of VSWS, that means you can list your business on the SSDA’s Scotland Starts Here website and app today at no additional charge to you!

What is Scotland Starts Here?

The Scotland Starts Here campaign shows visitors that the South is where Scotland’s identity and soul were born – and that the south of Scotland has shaped this nation’s history and culture for centuries.  The campaign comprises a travel inspiration website (, a mobile app and a suite of digital marketing assets including podcasts, eBooks, videos, blogs and social media advertising.

Initially developed by the Midlothian and Borders Tourism Action Group (MBTAG), Scotland Starts Here is now under the umbrella of SSDA and will be extended to cover the D&G area. The campaign will be relaunched in full in Spring 2021, with the new D&G content incorporated and as a member of VSWS you have the chance to be part of it. Once you upload your listing, it will appear within days and other features on Scotland Starts Here will drip feed over the coming months whilst new content creation is developed and the website is reshaped.

How do I list my business on Scotland Starts Here?

All eligible Visit South West Scotland members should have received a link from MyWhereverly (Please check your spam / clutter / junk folder if it is not showing in your inbox).  Initial links were sent on 2nd Dec 2020, links for those who haven’t yet clicked through are being reissued from MyWhereverly on 9th February 2021. This link will allow you to log in and create your own business listing for the Scotland Starts Here App and Website.

If you haven’t received a link, or are not sure if you are eligible, please email Lesley or Gowan from SSDA.

You will be able to go back in at any time to update and change your listing. It is your responsibility to create and manage your own listing as a tourism business. Click on the image below to download a toolkit that can be used to help you create your business listing, maximise this fantastic benefit and be part of the destinations marketing campaign (Scotland Starts Here) going forward.

Please note you are only eligible to list / add your business if you have a tourism offering that can be visited that is based in Dumfries and Galloway. Please check the email that is being used as the admin for your listing is correct. Please also ensure the Post Code of your business is correct ( the place people can stay / visit). You can change this if it is incorrect and you can also move the dot on the map to your exact business location when listing your business.

If you have signed up directly as a member with SSDA, you will have already received the links to list your business through one of the SSDA agents Lesley / Gowan and no further action is required.

Once your listing has been completed and approved it will go live on the app and website within a couple of days.

What Next?

The Scotland Starts Here website is undergoing extensive redevelopment to get Dumfries and Galloway integrated and the team is working hard to get as many D&G tourism businesses listed and live on the website as possible.  Due to the redevelopment of the website all D&G businesses which create their listing will be listed on the map and under their category at present. Further D&G content will be created over the coming months and will be included in the relaunch next Spring. Keep an eye out for updates in our newsletters as there will be lots of great opportunities as we approach the relaunch.

If you do not wish to have your business listed on the Scotland Starts Here App, please email our Membership Secretary Jill Finnimore at and we will remove your details from the system.
