Publicity Opportunity for Visit South West Scotland Members

The Project

Vitali Vitaliev is an internationally acclaimed award-winning travel writer, columnist and author who has been commissioned by British publishers Amberley to research and write a travel book on the Utopian settlements of Britain (garden suburbs, model villages, new towns, ‘owenite’ and other ‘Utopian’ industrial, agricultural and religious communities etc.) including Scotland. (see his Letter of Introduction).

The Planned Visit

To research the Scottish part of the book, Vitali is planning to come to Scotland with a photographer and to visit Gretna (for the former Gretna Garden Village etc.), Wigtown and a couple of other similar communities and museums in Dumfries & Galloway and the surrounding area in late July or early August this year. Vitali knows Wigtown very well, he has spoken at 5 Wigtown Book Festivals to date and written about it for the Daily Telegraph and the (Glasgow) Herald.

The Content

When on the road and afterwards, Vitali will be writing blogs and columns (see some examples of his work here: Search results page | E&T Magazine ( results page | E&T Magazine (, plus features for Geographical magazine to which he regularly contributes features (see recent sample here: Spotlight on… Letchworth Garden City – Geographical Magazine) and the magazines and other publications of the International Travel Writers Alliance of which he is a member.

The Offer

Vitali is looking for complimentary B&B accommodation (campsites also an option) for two people and one dog for one night in Gretna and two nights in Wigtown in late July/early August, with dates to be confirmed. In exchange, providers will receive credits in the book, which will receive wide-ranging publicity and multiple mentions/descriptions (with photos wherever possible) in the above-mentioned national and international periodicals.
