Guest Reviews

“Sanderling is the perfectly placed cottage for a get away from it all holiday. Quiet and remote but not too remote to feel isolated. Linda and David have thought about every comfort. A lovely welcome hamper was waiting for us. The bedding on the comfortable king size bed was excellent quality. Roomy bathroom with large separate walk-in shower and kitchen amply stocked for ‘cooking at home’. Even Haggis (the dog) was well catered for with treats, bowls and toys. Positioned half way between two beaches and scenic coastal path on the doorstep. Perfect.”

Tips for other travellers

Our favourite restaurant was the one within the Loch Arthur Farm Shop (dogs only allowed outside). We also ate at the Anchor Inn in Kippford and the Steam Boat Inn at Carsethorn. Both good pub food.
Local produce market at Colvend Village Hall, I think is on every third Saturday.”

“We could not have asked for more during our long winter weekend at Sanderling. Every little detail has been thought of – from decor, to guest/cottage information, to quality of interiors like pillows, mattresses and duvets. So much care and attention has gone into the property and it really shows. The cottage is beautiful with an old world charm yet everything inside feels very new and spotlessly clean. The area is breathtaking – walks on the doorstep, an abundance of wildlife and friendly people everywhere. I’m reluctant to use the word idyllic but really nothing else sums it up. Thank you so much Linda! I will definitely be back in the spring.”

Tips for other travellers
“The Rockcliffe – Sandyhills walk which passes right by the cottage is breathtaking (just don’t get lost like me and end up knee deep in mud and in someone’s farm!). Star gazing at Galloway Forest about a 40 min drive away (sadly it was cloudy/snowing on the night we visited but the forest was beautiful). The Lock Arthur farm shop as recommended by Linda was a great place for lunch and stocking up on essentials.”

Choosing places to stay is about the right location and the perfect cottage and with our private sandy beaches, spectacular scenery and prolific wildlife we have some of the best dog-friendly sea-side holiday cottages  in South West Scotland, together with an enviable micro climate unique to this coastline.  All the cottages (except Shore Cottage) have cosy wood burning stoves, incredibly comfortable beds with crisp clean linen, large enclosed gardens and stunning views.  We have a lot of repeat bookings which is testimony to how much our guests enjoy staying here.

We have 4 traditional stone built cottages some right on the sea (Shore Cottage 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom) and some a 5 – 10 minutes walk from the sea (Powillimount Cottage 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom, West Lodge 2 bedroom and Little Dunbar 2 en suite bedrooms)

We also have 3 log chalets set in about half an acre of landscaped ground that leads down to the beach.  They are light and airy with large open plan living areas, 2 comfortable bedrooms and cosy woodburning stoves, stunning views and lots of space.

Golf, fishing, 7stanes mountain biking, horse riding, bird watching, shooting (including wildfowling), stalking and hill walking can all be enjoyed locally (see the wide range of local activities available).

We are dog friendly and perfect for children. You can even arrange to bring your horse.

*All our holiday properties have sea views and are within easy walking distance of the beach.

*We have wi-fi available in all the cottages.

*We are a top wildlife tourism destination with red squirrels, otters, dolphins and other rare species as well as amazing birdlife.

*We have the best pub in the area within walking distance of the log chalets. The local area has a range of good pubs, shops and restaurants.

*Some of our properties have disabled access (assisted wheelchair access). Please ask for advice on the most suitable cottage.

*We can sleep up to 32 across all our self catering accommodation, or take the 3 log chalets for a large family gathering sleeping 12 all together.

*Our location is stunning and we are on the edge of a dark sky region so the stars are too!
