Elsay May Lodges

Welcome to the Ayrshire countryside where you can relax in the warmth of a cosy, rustic lodge with panoramic sea views.

Experience a variety of wildlife in a truly unique outdoor setting from your own private garden.

Welcome to Elsay May Lodges “where dreams really do come true”.

Four lodges are available, each lodge sleeps 2 adults. Adults over 25 only.

Pheasant Cottage, Pine Cone Lodge, The Glen and The Burrow

One is a specially fitted accessible lodge.

The lodges are individually themed and beautifully furnished.

Each lodge has a kitchen equipped with sink, fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster – all you need to cook or just prepare snacks. Fresh milk, coffee, tea and sugar are provided. The farmhouse kitchen is a hive of activity producing fresh food on a daily basis, including breakfasts and two-course meals. Orders will be delivered to the door of your lodge at the requested time, always respecting social distancing.

The shower rooms have all you need with toilet, shower, wash hand basin and heated towel rail. Soft, fluffy bath and hand towels, shower gel, soap and shampoo are all provided. The shower and towel rail are heated by LPG gas. There is also a small radiator in the main lodge area to provide all round heat if the stove is not in use. High up in the pointed ceilings hang grand rustic chandeliers.  Cosy up on those long dark nights, in front of the little Hygge woodburning stove, and enjoy your favourite tipple or a hot drink from the stove kettle as the flames flicker.

Your private garden is secured by rustic post and rail fencing and native hedging to help encourage a natural habitat for a variety of wildlife. All four lodges have Japanese-style Ofuro hot tubs in their adjoining private rustic gazebos. The hot tubs have external wood fired heaters, fuelled with logs, so you can relax after bathing and watch the sun set while the flames flicker on.

Here at Elsay May all of our lodges are dog friendly. A little welcome pack awaits your four-legged friends and a cosy dog bed with fleece quilt. Each lodge is completely self-contained with its own secure garden.

Galloway and Southern Ayrshire UNESCO Biosphere

Galloway and Southern Ayrshire is a unique and special place. So much so that the area has been designated a UNESCO ‘Biosphere’: a status awarded to world-class environments that demonstrate a balanced relationship between people and nature.

Our Biosphere offers a truly authentic lowland experience with remote open moorland, lonely lochs, quiet ancient oak woodlands, and picturesque villages all contributing to its character, providing opportunities for contemplation and awe. It is a place of cooperation and collaboration that shows that a sustainable way of living is not only possible but already happening!

The landscape and its people have fired the imagination of creative minds for centuries. Painters, musicians, crafts people and sculptors have been inspired by the area, it being home to world class environmental art including Striding Arches by Andy Goldsworthy.

For a truly authentic lowland Scotland experience you need to meet some of the people who live and work here. You can join one of our Biosphere Guides. They offer bespoke experiences tailored to show you some of the unique and memorable sites of our Biosphere. Alternatively, you might like to try our Biosphere Routes, specially designed to give you a self-guided experience around some of our hidden gems. Or perhaps you’d like to visit one of the Biosphere Communities where you will be assured of a warm and friendly welcome. However, you decide to explore our Biosphere you are sure to have an unforgettable experience.

Situated in the picturesque village of historic Alloway in Ayrshire, a 10 minute walk, or two minute drive to the world famous Brig O’Doon, Burns National Heritage Centre, the Brig O’Doon Hotel and Burns Cottage, and on the edge of the main town of Ayr, the Bothy has glorious views over the idyllic River Doon which runs for half a mile as the property’s eastern boundary, offering excellent opportunities for bird watching and riverside walks. It is also just a 2 minute drive from the coast and views of the Isle of Arran, Mull of Kintyre and Isle of Bute.

Doonbank’s Bothy is a beautifully presented two storey, one bedroomed detached house. It is very spacious, quiet and peaceful and set within four and a half acres of Doonbank Cottage’s secluded private woodland garden.
The bothy sleeps two adults. We also have  a free cot for under 2s and (on request) a separate single fold a way bed for an under 10 year old. As well as having access to the woodland garden and river, it also has it’s own private back garden to relax in.

It is overlooked at its southern end by the 16th century Greenan Castle which is perched on a cliff above the strand. The stunning views make it a popular spot for walkers, dog walkers and horse riders alike.

There is a car park on Greenan road which offers easy access to the beach.

Culzean Castle and Country Park

With a dramatic clifftop setting, Robert Adam architecture, fascinating history & beautiful surrounds, Culzean Castle and Country Park is one of Scotland’s best days out.

This glorious 260ha estate was once the playground of David Kennedy, 10th Earl of Cassillis – a man who was keen to impress with his wealth and status. Opulent to the extreme, the park is planted with conifers and beech, sculpted around miles of sandy coastline dotted with caves, and finished off with a Swan Pond, an ice house, flamboyant formal gardens and fruit-filled glasshouses.

The castle itself is perched on the Ayrshire cliffs, incorporating everything the earl could wish for in his country home. It was designed by Robert Adam in the late 18th century and is filled to the turrets with treasures that tell the stories of the people who lived here.

About A. D. Rattray

At A. D. Rattray we believe whisky is the finest and most interesting spirit in the world.

As an independent whisky company, we have been selecting and maturing casks of single malt Scotch whisky for over 150 years. Established in 1868 the company has passed down through generations of the Morrison family, a name that is steeped in whisky heritage.

Today we continue to go to great lengths to source interesting casks and quality spirit from across Scotland to create our distinctive whiskies. At the core of our portfolio are our single cask bottlings, The A. D. Rattray Cask Collection, which along with our award-winning Casks of Scotland single malt Scotch whiskies, are ready to be discovered and enjoyed. Every bottle has a story to tell…
