Dalbeattie Golf Club

Dalbeattie Golf Club

A delightful 9-hole parkland course with stunning views of the surrounding Urr Valley, Dalbeattie Golf Club  is a haven for wildlife; birds of prey fly overhead, deer are often seen and woodland song birds abound in the adjacent Rounall Wood.

Established in 1894 Dalbeattie Golf Club is one of the oldest in Dumfries & Galloway and the layout of this course, which has been considerably extended in recent years, provides an excellent challenge for golfers of all ages and abilities seeking a truly enjoyable golfing experience all year round. Come and see for yourself.

A warm welcome and an enjoyable day’s golf await.

For more information or questions about the club and its facilities, or to make enquiries about membership, visitors’ passes etc., please contact us by phone or email.

For telephone enquiries, the Clubhouse is regularly open every evening, Wednesday to Sunday plus weekend lunch times from late March until late October. Outside these times, it may be easier to contact us by email.

Situated on the scenic north shore of the Solway coast, Mersehead is an extensive wetland and saltmarsh area, a haven for breeding waders, wintering waterfowl and year-round bird and wildlife-watching.

Spring is particularly magical, when the wet meadows fill with lapwings and skylarks and the air is filled with birdsong as they compete to establish territories and attract a mate. In the evenings you can hear the natterjack toads.

In Summer you can look out for the young birds making their first venture into the outside world.

Autumn sees the arrival of large numbers of the Svalbard population of barnacle geese, as well as pintails which flock to the flooded wetlands in autumn and winter.

And perhaps our favourite annual display at Mersehead, is the winter murmurations of starlings swirling around the reed beds, truly unforgettable.

Colvend Golf Club

Our testing parkland layout offers a challenge to all abilities and is one of the area’s most popular golfing experiences. The Club was founded in 1905 with a Willie Fernie designed 9hole layout and over the years this has been developed into the 18hole course you see today. We welcome golfers and non golfers of all abilities and buggies are available on request.

With spectacular views across to the Cumbrian Fells and even to the Isle of Man, we are also privileged to enjoy some exciting wildlife visitors including red squirrels, roe deer, peregrine falcons, and even occasional otters.

Colvend is one of those places you’ll want to come back to again and again to savour both the course and our renowned hospitality.

Guest Reviews

“Sanderling is the perfectly placed cottage for a get away from it all holiday. Quiet and remote but not too remote to feel isolated. Linda and David have thought about every comfort. A lovely welcome hamper was waiting for us. The bedding on the comfortable king size bed was excellent quality. Roomy bathroom with large separate walk-in shower and kitchen amply stocked for ‘cooking at home’. Even Haggis (the dog) was well catered for with treats, bowls and toys. Positioned half way between two beaches and scenic coastal path on the doorstep. Perfect.”

Tips for other travellers

Our favourite restaurant was the one within the Loch Arthur Farm Shop (dogs only allowed outside). We also ate at the Anchor Inn in Kippford and the Steam Boat Inn at Carsethorn. Both good pub food.
Local produce market at Colvend Village Hall, I think is on every third Saturday.”

“We could not have asked for more during our long winter weekend at Sanderling. Every little detail has been thought of – from decor, to guest/cottage information, to quality of interiors like pillows, mattresses and duvets. So much care and attention has gone into the property and it really shows. The cottage is beautiful with an old world charm yet everything inside feels very new and spotlessly clean. The area is breathtaking – walks on the doorstep, an abundance of wildlife and friendly people everywhere. I’m reluctant to use the word idyllic but really nothing else sums it up. Thank you so much Linda! I will definitely be back in the spring.”

Tips for other travellers
“The Rockcliffe – Sandyhills walk which passes right by the cottage is breathtaking (just don’t get lost like me and end up knee deep in mud and in someone’s farm!). Star gazing at Galloway Forest about a 40 min drive away (sadly it was cloudy/snowing on the night we visited but the forest was beautiful). The Lock Arthur farm shop as recommended by Linda was a great place for lunch and stocking up on essentials.”
