Portpatrick Folk Festival is one of the highlights of the holiday season in Portpatrick and is highly popular with visitors and locals alike.

Life o` Reilly can regularly be heard many weekends during the year playing in The Crown – Portpatrick

The festival kicks off on Friday evening with a piper on Dorn Rock in the harbour. There is a family ceilidh in the Village Hall on Friday evening and on Saturday night there is a more formal concert in Portpatrick Village Hall. There are many informal sessions to join in or listen to throughout weekend – inside and outside the pubs. All are made very welcome.
The weekend begins on Friday Evening in Portpatrick Village hall with a ceilidh with local band The Life O`Reilly and friends. This band will be well known to weekend regulars at the Crown Hotel in Portpatrick. The ceilidh starts at 7.30 and tickets, available at the door or from the festival caravan at Portpatrick Harbour, cost £6.00 BYOB!
There will be sessions on Friday evening until late – inside and, hopefully weather permitting outside where all are welcome to sing or play their instruments or just enjoy!
On Saturday, in addition to sessions by day and night, there will be a concert in Portpatrick Village Hall featuring Robyn Stapleton and friends. Robyn Stapleton is BBC Radio Scotland`s Young Traditional Musician of the Year for 2014. Robyn will be performing with Hajime Takahashi on guitar and banjo and Stephen Hefferman on accordion, piano and whistle. The trio have been performing together since 2011 and, for them, one of the year`s highlights was performing at the 40th anniversary of the Girvan Folk Festival – also in South West Scotland.
There will be two support acts sharing the bill including Newton Stewart`s own Nathon Jones and Rhona Norris.
