  • Jazz Weekend, Stranraer

North West Castle Hotel is a brand new venue hosting a Jazz Weekend from Friday 19th – Sunday 21st October, 2018, when some of the UK’s highly talented musicians will provide varied styles of music in spacious and comfortable surroundings.

A superb programme of New Orleans, Dixieland, Hot Club, Mainstream, Music of the 20s and 30s plus a hint of Rhythm and Blues will steer you through the weekend.

Musicians appearing during the weekend are:

The Boodle-Am Jug Band, (Ayrshire based, fun-time Trio), performing some very early Jazz and Blues to get your feet tapping- and keep you smiling!

The ever popular Dave Donohoe Band, plus special guest, award winning trumpeter, Jamie Brownfield who will appear during one of the Band’s gigs.  The Band will provide an excellent mix of popular ballads, spirituals, classic jazz – with dancing an option here – for the more athletic!

Keith Stephen’s Hot Club Trio with Caroline will charm their audience with some first class Djangoism, Hot Club and Standards.  Caroline will add that extra dimension with her lovely vocals and cheeky Geordie banter.

Mike Daly Trio – led by Mike on cornet, John Fenner on guitar, Tom Evans on bass plus special guest John Hallam, highly respected and versatile reedsman.  Some very smooth sounds here.

Mike Daly’s Dixieland Rhythm Kings – plus special guest John Hallam, providing excellent music plus some light-hearted entertainment.

‘Spats’ Langham’s Hot Fingers bring more delightful professionalism with their ever charming performance of 20s and 30s music plus a hint of Blues.

Strumsum Blues Band, Dumfries based, providing music from the 1930s to the present day will definitely liven up proceedings!

Three Bears, led by Tom Kincaid, will be joined by ‘The Two Tops’ John Hallam and Jamie Brownfield – an outstanding quintet.

Tom will open the Event on Friday evening with his masterful piano playing, delighting his audience while they dine.

In the past Stranraer has missed out on the wonderful Jazz scene – so, now is the time!  This may be a corner of Scotland which you have overlooked before, but is certainly well worth a visit, especially since you can extend your stay from only £60.00 per person per night including dinner, bed & breakfast.

Jazz and Accommodation from £220 per person.  Rate includes:
