Newton Stewart & Minnigaff Traditional Music and Dance Festival 2021

It is with a very heavy heart indeed,  that we announce the cancellation of this year’s event. 2020

We have been regularly monitoring the information and advice from the NHS, Scottish and UK governments and, as difficult as that has been at times, what remains our utmost priority is the health and safety of our staff, volunteers, artists & crew, audiences and local communities.

With many people expected to travel to the region for the festival this year, and with no way of predicting the course of Covid-19 over the coming months, it was felt that we simply couldn’t risk running the event in early July nor would it be possible to accurately predict an alternative date this year.

If you have already booked tickets for this year’s festival, you should have already received an e-mail detailing how you can apply for a full refund.  Alternatively, all tickets purchased for this year will be valid for next year’s event.

The 7th annual Newton Stewart & Minnigaff Traditional Music & Dance Festival will take place over 9th – 11th July 2021 and, after another outstanding programme of events in 2019 which saw us hosting Scottish Highland Dancing competitions and, as ever, some of the biggest names in traditional music, it looks set to be another packed programme and is really living up to it’s reputation as one of the best rural arts festivals in Dumfries & Galloway.

Portpatrick Folk Festival  2020 – UNDER REVIEW

The ever popular Portpatrick Folk Festival is due to take place on the first weekend in September 4th to the 6th 2020. The usual sessions will take place inside (and outside) the participating pubs and it is hoped that a very substantial number of musicians will attend. As with 2019, there are no plans at present to hold a formal concert or ceilidh this year and we will keep you updated if this changes. Most visitors attending the Portpatrick Folk Festival  always regarded the sessions and wonderful atmosphere as the main attraction.

THE SWALLOW THEATRE WILL TEMPORARILY CLOSE and we are working with performers to reschedule shows.

We have to follow government guidance and we intend to play our part in controlling the spread of coronavirus and therefore we are sadly going to temporarily close The Swallow Theatre until we are told it is safe to re-open.

We are currently talking with all the performers who were due to appear here over the next few weeks and we hope to re-schedule as many of the shows as possible to later in the year or to 2021.

For shows that are postponed or cancelled, we shall get in touch with ticket-holders and arrange a refund, or a transfer of their ticket to the new date. It will take a little while for us to organise all this, so please bear with us. We shall keep our website and Facebook pages updated with the latest situation on each show as we have information.
