WWT Caerlaverock

Animals & Wildlife, Nature Reserves
In winter thousands of water birds are attracted to this wetland habitat, with ducks, waders, swans and barnacle geese in the fields and ponds.

About WWT Caerlaverock

WWT Caerlaverock is a stunning nature reserve on the Solway Firth. The entire population of Svalbard barnacle geese migrate to the Solway for the winter and the reserve provides amazing views of thousands of geese from a variety of hides, towers and observatories. One of the best wildlife watching sites in the UK, the site also boasts the most northerly UK population of natterjack toads. Additionally, the Atlantic saltmarsh at WWT Caerlaverock is among the most important saltmarsh systems in Britain.

The Visitor Centre has a gift shop and gallery exhibition space, along with a coffee machine and a small selection of snacks allowing you to top up before your wetland adventure. There are also indoor and outdoor seating areas suitable for enjoying a picnic. The gift shop sells a variety of optics including binoculars and telescopes, books on wildlife, bird food and feeders, and a variety of wildlife-related gifts. Friendly knowledgeable staff and volunteers guide and engage visitors and provide a year round programme of special events.
