About The Crichton Grounds and Gardens

The Crichton is an 85 acre parkland estate in Dumfries with beautifully maintained grounds, gardens and arboretum and emerging wildflower meadows. It is free and open to the public all year round and has stunning scenery, enchanting rock gardens, a rose garden and an intriguing history.

The Crichton is home to The Crichton Memorial Church, Easterbrook Hall, Easterbrook Bistro, Bar & Spa, Crichton Central (co-working, cafe, event space with Changing Places facility), a thriving Business Park with over 100 tenants and an academic campus.

Visitors can choose from a selection of eateries on site (with indoor and outdoor seating) or decide to pick up a takeaway or picnic lunch to enjoy while exploring the grounds.

For those who would like to stay over, Holiday Inn Dumfries is conveniently located on site and is the perfect base to explore The Crichton and the South of Scotland.

The gardens are stunning in all seasons, but are particularly wonderful in the late Spring/early Summer and in the Autumn too. The Crichton is a safe and beautiful place to explore and an increasingly popular outdoor venue for weddings, festivals and events including the Doonhame Festival; an annual summer music festival.

The Crichton is a family-friendly environment and is popular for leisurely strolls at any time of year. It is an ideal training ground for walkers and runners and is also home to Crichton parkrun on a Saturday morning and many other active community groups.

The Crichton has a significant tree collection, a tree trail and a wellbeing trail. Visitors are free to explore the site independently or as part of an organised group visit. To arrange a group visit contact Easterbrook Hall.

The Crichton is also home to the Tree of Tranquility; a copper memorial tree, which takes pride of place in the grounds and is a special place for families who have suffered the loss of a baby.

There is also a community run Veterans Garden on site and Totem Latamat; a totem from Mexico that was laid to rest in the grounds of The Crichton after COP26.

The grounds and gardens are maintained and developed by The Crichton Trust.
