About Southerness Golf Club

Welcome to Southerness Golf Club

Golf has been played at Southerness since 1946 and we continue to play over the same piece of land chosen back then. The current course layout, designed by Philip Mackenzie Ross, presents a challenging course with breathtaking views of the Solway Firth, the English Lake District and the hills of Southwest Scotland. There are few places in the world where you can play golf in such beautifully natural surroundings.

A true championship links course, Southerness has hosted several national championships, including the Scottish Stroke Play, British Youths, British Ladies Stroke Play and the Senior Home Internationals. It is fair to say that the layout, combined with the prevailing winds, provides golfers of all abilities with a memorable golfing challenge.

As a classic links every hole is readable from the tee but good course management is needed to score close to par. Only on the rare calmest of days will you find the benefit of rangefinders etc. At all other times the wind will influence your club selection and approach, shot by shot, making each round a unique experience. Our professional greenkeeping team are rightly proud of the high quality and natural state of the course. This is reflected in the high rankings Southerness consistently achieves in the UK’s top 100 links.

After 18 holes you’ll welcome the comfortable surroundings and the good food and drink available at the Clubhouse. Visitors are more than welcome at the Club, enjoying the same facilities and experience as the Members.
