Galloway International Dark Sky Park
The Galloway Forest Park, located in Dumfries and Galloway in South West Scotland became the first designated Dark Sky Park in the UK in 2009.
There are very few people living in the dark sky park and this ensures that the skies are really black.
Look up and you have the benefit of seeing over 7000 planets and stars which are visible to the naked eye on an ever basis as we move around the sun.
The Milky Way is easy to see in these inky black skies and makes for some wonderful and memorable photographs.
Some great areas for viewing include the Visitor Centres at Clatteringshaws and Kirroughtree and also Glentrool.
These sites all have information points as do many other locations across the Forest Park. Please have a look at this downloadable leaflet for more information
