Galloway House Gardens
Newton Stewart

These historic gardens were created in 1740 by Lord Garlies  and are still maintained according to his original plans as informal pleasure grounds where wild flowers and plants have their place beside more exotic cultivated species.
In early spring the gardens are bright with snowdrops and daffodils, followed by a display of rhododendrons, azaleas and many fine trees and shrubs. Enjoy peaceful walks among the lovely old trees flowering shrubs to the quiet seashore and sandy bay. The Walled garden at Galloway House is currently closed to the public.
Open: 1 March – 31 October, 9am – 5pm.

If you have time, there is a most interesting coastal walk from Galloway House Gardens to the ruins of Cruggleton Castle from where there are lovely views of the Isle of Whithorn.
