Bruntis Loch is a real beauty spot near the Vistor Centre at Kirroughtree in Galloway Forest Park. The loch can be accessed by a short walk on a good surface. This short walk is one of many Galloway Forest Park walks andcan be done on its own or combined with a number of options for a longer walk.
You can pick up an excellent leaflet with maps and detailed information on this and other walks in Galloway Forest Park at Kirroughtree Visitor Centre or from the other centres at Glentrool and Clatteringshaws.
Our walk starts at the Visitor Centre and the easiest option is to follow the red Anniversary Cairn Trail which gradually ascends on wide gravel paths and forestry roads to reach the cairn. The cairn is to mark the 50th anniversary of the Forest Park. The trail then veers left (marked red and Black) to reach lovely Bruntis Loch.
Take time to admire the view, the ornamental bridge and the standing stone at the loch`s edge. This is one of the famed 7 Stanes.
To return direct to the visitor centre, follow the follow the red track ( and other colours) fairly steeply downhill. This circuit is about 1.5 miles and should take under an hour to walk.
As you will see from the leaflet, there are several options available to extend your walk by combining several routes to upwards of 5 miles.
Refreshments and parking are available at the new visitor centre and cafe.
