Colvend Golf Club is a testing 18 hole course with stunning views on the Solway Coast, close to Dalbeattie, Kippford and Rockcliffe.
Colvend Golf Club near Sandyhills was founded in 1905 as a 9 hole course and the architect was Willie Fernie. The course was re-designed in 1985 by architect Dave Thomas, and it was extended to 18 holes in May 1997, architect John Souter of GTI. The renowned golfer and TV commentator Peter Allis had a hand in its design also.
Most of the holes offer challenging water features and tree lined fairways and the course is described as being “significantly testing”. Excellent sea views are also a feature and the club is very proud of the magnificent oaks and other trees on the course.
The original 9 holes are demanding with small well guarded greens and undulating fairways. The Par 3 8th hole is one of the best short holes in the country and is worthy of its stroke index 6.
The additional 9 holes, opened in 1997 are now well established and offer golf of the highest quality.
A range of food and drinks from snacks to substantial meals are available at the clubhouse.
Buggies and trolleys available for hire
