The informal garden which was created by the famous plant collector Michael Wickenden is now in the care of the plantsman and ecologist Kevin Hughes. Kevin took ownership of Cally in 2018 and is working hard to get the gardens back in shape and ensure that the 4,000 plus plant collection are a delight for all to enjoy. Since arriving Kevin has brought his own stunning collection of Magnolias, Daphnes and Trilliums and also has added more collections including Galanthus, Paeonies and a wonderful array of Nerine’s.
As an ecologist and environmentalist Kevin has decided to make Cally a haven for birds, insects and all things wild. Cally is on it’s way to becoming a fully organic and low impact garden. Watch out for the formal lawns that are now on their way to becoming flower meadows and the paths that are being transformed into living walkways.
