  • Annandale Distillery and Visitor Centre

Welcome to Annandale Distillery and Visitor Centre

Established in 1836, we’re one of Scotland’s oldest operating distilleries.

Located close to the Scotland-England border, we’re also the first (and last) distillery in Scotland.

Whilst in the ownership of the famous Johnnie Walker, Annandale Distillery closed in 1918, seemingly forever.

    Not so!

Rescued by David Thomson & Teresa Church in 2007, this once derelict distillery sprang back into life on November 3rd, 2014
Three years later, on Wednesday November 15th, 2017, we filled the first ‘new era’ bottle of Annandale Single Malt Scotch Whisky.

It’s a beautiful place! Come and visit us, take a tour, sip our stunning peated and unpeated whiskies and taste our delicious food. We promise you a warm Scottish welcome.

  • Mostly Ghostly Tours

    Mostly Ghostly Tours

A warm welcome to the home of Mostly Ghostly ToursDumfries and Galloway’s first paranormal investigation team and creators of a range of well-researched ghost and local history tours encompassing everything from Scotland’s most haunted road to an intriguing vampire legend dating back to the 12th century. We are proud winners of the 2012 & 2014 Dumfries & Galloway Life Tourism Champion Awards.

Mostly Ghostly, as our name suggests, are mainly focused on ghosts and hauntings, however we welcome reports of big cat sightings, UFOs, ostensible reincarnation and many other fascinating aspects of the paranormal and supernatural. United by our close friendships and determination to explore and evidence the unknown, we have all experienced something, both personally and collectively, that we cannot find a current explanation for.

The team has since developed and diversified, creating five exciting tours showcasing elements unique to our region. While exploring innovative ways to fund our research visits, we had the idea of developing a ghost walk for Dumfries. With our existing passion for ghost stories and local studies combined with a desire to promote tourism and culture in the region, it seemed like a natural progression. Our philosophy is that a good story well told needs little in the way of artistic license; each event takes months of careful research to create a truly authentic experience.

    Some recent reviews

    Henry Jeffrey

As a front of house member at the Eskdale Hotel I’d heard many positive reviews about Armstrong Border Tours from residents, so myself and the duty manager went on a tour with Adam. We were impressed, firstly, by the immaculately clean vehicle and comfortable seats.

Our tour took us North of Langholm through the Ewes Valley before cutting across to Hermitage Castle. The tour continued through Newcastleton, Kershopefoot, Rowanburn, Hollows and returning to Langholm at 5pm.

Throughout the tour Adam shared his knowledge of not only the Armstrong family, but of the Elliot’s, Scott’s and Turnbull’s – to name a few. His tour was delivered at a good pace and easy to understand.

If you plan to pass through the border area then I’d highly recommend a visit to Langholm and experience a tour yourself. A very informative tour with a very knowledgeable guide.

    Becca Jill

I made arrangements with Adam online. I had a special request to visit Rosslyn Chapel, and he was happy to oblige. Adam is very knowledgeable about the history of not only the Armstrongs but the entire Border area. Having Adam for a guide made for a very enjoyable day!

    Darren Kiddell

I had my girlfriend visiting from Germany and wanted to do something for her where she could get to know the region and see some of the unknown sights that ordinary tour guides would miss. I’ve known Adam for a good number of years now and when I found out about his border tours I booked one up straight away.
I had a few things I wanted to fit into the day, but asked Adam to surprise us with things he thought we would enjoy. The places we visited were amazing, Floors Castle, Traquair House, Gilnockie Tower, and while they were great to see and snoop around, it was Adam’s knowledge and his enthusiasm that made the day most enjoyable for us. I had worried my girlfriend and Adam might have communication issues but there was none at all and she understood nearly all of his informative talks only asking once or twice for him to repeat himself, considering the amount of knowledge he shared with us on our tour I was seriously impressed!
Adam is a great guy with loads of passion and pride for what he does and he made sure we had a great day. If anyone wants to see some of the most beautiful countryside I’ve ever seen, points of interest off the beaten track and pick up a bit of history along the way, I’d definitely recommend going on one of his tours!
