    The Barracuda Leisure Club is split into two distinct areas:

    Wet Area

    Within the wet area you will find a 14m fully heated leisure swimming pool, perfect for a relaxing swim or equally as functional for those wishing to use the pool for workout purposes. Next to the pool is the spa pool; if ever there was a place to realx, this is it. Also located within the wet area is the sauna; a wood clad hot room using dry heat to sweat out any body toxins. Side by side with the sauna is the steam room; a hot room creating wet heat using steam vapours, perfect for cleansing skins and aiding with breathing problems.

    Gym Area

    With the gym area of The Barracuda Leisure Club there are a number of state-of-the-art cardio touch screen equipment from Life Fitness. Included in the range are bikes, cross trainers, treadmills and steppers aas well as two Concept 2 rowing machines.

    There are a number of resistance stations which include a Pec-Dec, chest press, lateral pull-down, bicep curl, hip conditioner and leg/leg extensions. In addition to the static weight machines is a well equipped weights area which includes two dumb bell racks, benches and a Jones Smith Machine; this machine allows individuals to add on a level to their Smith workout as its functionality allows for movement in all directions, not just simply up and down.

    Brighouse Bay Golf Club

    Cally Palace Golf Course

    Cally Palace golf course is owned by the Cally Palace Hotel which has only very recently opened up to non-residents, this 18 hole parkland course provides a pleasing challenge for all skill levels.

    Designed by well-known golf architect Tom Macaulay, the course opened in 1994 and it makes the most of its picturesque setting near Gatehouse of Fleet, with wonderful views of nearby Cardoness Castle, Rutherford’s Monument and the Fleet Estuary. Natural contours, magnificent trees, hidden burns and the beautiful Cally Lake give this course a mature feel that belies its relatively young age.

    With no members and no competitions, the Cally Golf Course provides accessible, relaxing golf, and it caters particularly well to the needs of visitors. Residents at the hotel can enjoy unlimited golf during their stay, making this a popular choice for golf parties and groups.

    Castle Douglas Golf Club

    Castle Douglas Golf Club is close to the town centre, a busy market town known as Scotland’s Food Town, this attractive, tree-lined 9 hole parkland course is an excellent example of town golf courses in southern Scotland.

    Castle Douglas Golf Club is a welcoming, very accessible club that is particularly supportive to junior players. The course has a straightforward layout, is well maintained with fair rough and has some very interesting holes.

    Catering and bar facilities are available all day during April through September. Visitors are welcome without reservation, although members have priority on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and booking is advised at weekends.

    Footgolf will be available on the course from Mid May onwards.

    Colvend Golf Club

    Crichton Golf Club

    A very popular course with local people, Crichton Golf Club is the only 9 hole course in Dumfries, and it provides excellent value for money and an enjoyable test of golf for all abilities.

    Always well maintained and presented, the course offers clear sight of almost all the holes as you play, and its well-considered layout provides a pleasing mix of visual appeal and challenge, with certain holes not as easy as they look!

    The club benefits from a welcoming visitor-friendly clubhouse, with an excellent restaurant offering meals and snacks.

    Dalbeattie Golf Club

    The scenery at Dalbeattie Golf Club is the star of this challenging 9 hole parkland town golf course. Dalbeattie’s well maintained course offers a few gentle slopes and rewards with panoramic views along the Urr valley, north to Cairnsmore of Fleet and south to Kippford and the Lake District hills.

    Established in 1894 Dalbeattie Golf Club is one of the oldest in Dumfries & Galloway, laid out on former farmland to the north of the town near Rounall Wood, a community woodland that’s teeming with wildlife including red squirrels, deer and woodland songbirds.

    During weekdays the golf course tends to be fairly quiet, however weekend tee times should be booked in advance. Motorised buggies are available for hire.

    Dumfries & Galloway Golf Club

    Dumfries & Galloway Golf Club is a challenging 18 hole golf course set in lovely rolling countryside on the western outskirts of Dumfries.
    The Dumfries & Galloway is a good test for the club golfer.

    The par of the golf course is 70 with the layout as we see today. As a parkland course Dumfries and Galloway Golf Club is a rolling undulating topography adds further to the interest of playing here. At no stage is hill walking gear a consideration and yet the slopes and dips which the golf course makes its way over give the course some fascinating prospect. Dumfries & Galloway Golf Club is a championship parkland course measuring 6222 yards this is by no means a monster but, being maintained to high standards, it is a beautifully presented course in a delightful, picturesque setting.

    Booking is advisable in the summer months and at the weekends. Visitor tee times are 0930 – 1130 and 1330 – 1530. Golfing parties are accepted.

    Dumfries and County Golf Club

    Dumfries and County Golf Club is a delightful parkland 18 hole golf course, centrally located and beautifully laid out alongside the River Nith with exceptional greens built to USGA standards.

    With a well earned reputation for hospitality, a recently refurbished lounge, excellent refurbished pro shop with full equipment hire and outstanding catering, the pleasure of your golfing visit to Dumfries and County will start long before you tee up.

    This is a beautifully mature parkland course with tree lined fairways, manicured rough and challenging greens.

    The Dumfries and County encourages strategic play, plot your way round carefully and you’ll find good shots are well rewarded. The greens are individualistic in character and exceptionally well maintained, and the huge double green shared by the 1st and 6th is a real treat.

    Gatehouse of Fleet Golf Club

    Each and every hole of this stunning 9 hole golf course at Gatehouse of Fleet Golf Club in the beautiful Fleet Valley rewards with challenge and with visual appeal.

    Situated on the coast of Dumfries & Galloway, it is always in good condition, Gatehouse of Fleet golf course is a good 9 hole test, with views from most of the holes of Wigtown Bay, the Clints of Dromore and the massif of Cairnsmore of Fleet. This is a good year round course with no winter greens, and spring and autumn are seasonal highlights due to the visual impact of the scenery.

    Pre booking is not necessary and the course enjoys excellent availability and accessibility, however tee times are not available on Sunday mornings until after 12pm. Golfing parties are welcome.

    The clubhouse facilities are modest with no catering, however there is a good selection of cafes, bars and hotels in the village of Gatehouse of Fleet itself.rkcudbright Golf Club

    Kirkcudbright Golf Club

    Kirkcudbright Golf Club with panoramic views over the Artists Town, its harbour and the Dee Estuary, Kirkcudbright Golf Course is an 18 hole parkland course of exceptional quality.

    An accessible, good long undulating course with lovely wide fairways, Kirkcudbright probably covers more acreage than any other course in Dumfries & Galloway. Distance control and accuracy is important here, and the course is never quite as straightforward as it appears, with repeat plays tempting and rewarding.

    Kirkcudbright is an exceptionally well maintained golf course, playable year round. The course is notable for its lack of bunkers, but such is the variety and quality of this course, it’s unlikely you’ll notice their absence, and indeed there are a number of subtle traps waiting to catch out errant drives.

    Kirkcudbright golf club caters very well for visiting golfers and individual and family weekly and monthly membership is available from £50.

    Langholm Golf Club

    Langholm Golf Club is a challenging hillside 9 hole golf course offering spectacular views from every hole, including the mountains of the Lake District to the south west.

    Founded in 1892 Langholm golf course has been through several design changes over the years, and today’s course is a challenging test for golfers of all abilities, particularly well suited to the mid-handicapper.

    The first captain of Langholm Golf Club was Thomas Moses, director of the world-famous cloth makers Reid & Taylor, which manufactures the cloth for Augusta’s famous Green Jackets.

    Located a few miles over the border, just off the A7, Langholm is perfectly located for visitors to Scottish Borders, Cumbria, Northumbria and Dumfries & Galloway. There are no restrictions for tee times, other than competition weekends. The clubhouse is very welcoming to visitors and catering can be provided for parties by arrangement.

    Lochmaben Golf Club

    If Robert the Bruce had been a golfer, this would have been his home course. The site of his castle is close to the second green, and from the third hole you can see the remains of the defensive motte.

    Lochmaben Golf club course is as famous for its picturesque loch side setting and friendliness, as it is for its historical connections. A very popular, well presented course with superb greens, Lochmaben golf course is suited to all handicappers and is conveniently located for the M74.

    There are a couple of challenging par threes early on, settling down to a good, fair parkland course that skirts around the edge of the loch.
    Lochmaben Golf Course is a rewarding experience for any golfer. It’s one of the best examples of a parkland course in the area and is playable all year round.

    Lockerbie Golf Club

    Founded in 1889, the original 9 hole golf course at Lockerbie was designed by legendary James Braid, extended nearly 100 years later when a further 9 holes were added.

    Lockerbie Golf Club course is a good parkland course providing a challenging but fair test of skill for golfers of all abilities, with lovely views over the Annandale Valley, the Solway and beyond to the Lake District.

    The tree lined course is, on the whole, forgiving, with a few hazards that can make for some interesting scores. Water features and natural contours create interest and the tree lined avenues require negotiation.

    Lockerbie school of golf – Junior coaching. Open to all on Thursday’s throughout the golf season 4pm – 6pm. Open to non members. Adult coaching can be arranged.

    Booking is advisable at the weekends and the clubhouse provides excellent hospitality and catering.

    Moffat Golf Club

    Moffat Golf Club enviable location, high on Coats Hill overlooking the charming town of Moffat, makes this 18 hole golf course one of the region’s most scenic, providing spectacular views from its fairways and greens.

    Originally founded in 1884, the golf course was redesigned in 1904 by Ben Sayers to create one of the most attractive, varied and interesting inland courses in Scotland.

    This heathland course has some wonderfully testing holes, full of natural undulations and hazards, with testing blind shots that feel less daunting on a repeat play.

    In addition to the fantastic course and stunning panoramic views of rural Dumfries & Galloway, the welcoming clubhouse provides changing rooms with warm showers, buggy and trolley hire, and a restaurant serving delicious hot and cold food.

    Its location just off the M74 makes Moffat an exceptionally good value day trip course for visitors from central Scotland or north of England. Booking is advisable at the weekends and during the summer months.

    New Galloway Golf Club

    New Galloway golf club course is one of the most scenic inland courses in Scotland, with stunning views over Loch Ken and towards the Galloway Hills.

    Nature is the star of New Galloway Golf Club. The par 68 upland course climbs from a woodland setting up to the first and second fairway to open moorland, and its location provides rewarding views of the Galloway landscape, with occasional glimpses of wildlife visitors such as red squirrel, red deer, hares and red kite.

    This is a golf course that invites flexible playing, with tight but fair fairways, stone dyke hazards and some of the finest greens in the area. An excellent year-round golf course with spectacular autumn colours and no winter greens.

    Newton Stewart Golf Club

    Newton Stewart Golf Club is an 18 hole parkland golf course sits on the edge of the Galloway Forest Park with spectacular views towards mountainous Cairnsmore and across scenic Wigtown Bay.

    The golf course is an enjoyable test for visitors of all golfing abilities, including beginners, and the club is very welcoming of visitors with a range of golf packages available.

    The layout opens with a pair of par fours around 350 yards long with out of bounds on the right, so accuracy rather than length from the tee is required to score well. A short climb to the 3rd tee brings you to the first of five par threes, which are a special feature of the course.

    Around the turn, the 8th, 9th and 10th are set around a picturesque lochan whose adjacent burn comes into play. Mature trees and patches of whins are more than just a scenic backdrop and feature strongly on the closing holes. Holes 12 to 16 each have their own particularly fearsome spots, before the final holes reward with a satisfying close to the round.

    Portpatrick Golf Club

    Portpatrick Golf Club provides Dumfries & Galloway’s most complete golf facility including the championship Dunskey course, the par 3 Dinvin course and an extensive range of practice facilities.

    Founded in 1903 the golf course commands magnificent views across the Irish Sea to Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man and Mull of Kintyre. Portpatrick is famous for its warm Gulf Stream influenced climate which enables great quality golf all year round.

    The 2 courses are a mixture of rolling moorland and seaside heath, at around 150 feet above sea level. 18 hole Dunskey is a must play in Dumfries & Galloway. Popular with groups of golfers from all over Scotland, and in fact all over the world, the golf course is famed for its wonderful scenery, charm and its welcoming nature, which positively embraces visiting golfers and groups.

    Families and beginners are encouraged to try the 9 hole Dinvin, a pay and play golf course which does not require advance booking. Taking about an hour to play, Dinvin is ideal for the golfer looking for a quick bit of exercise or for the beginner who does not feel up to the rigours of 18 holes.

    A true golfing treasure, Portpatrick is one of Scotland’s most highly regarded courses for visitors and golfing groups. Family rates and discounted books of tickets are available.

    Powfoot Golf Club

    Powfoot Golf Club is one of the best golf courses in Scotland, opened in 1903 and redesigned by James Braid twenty years later, Powfoot golf course presents a mix of both links and parkland golf, delivered to the highest standard.

    This is an exceptional Championship golf course with all the right ingredients in terms of length, quality, setting and character. The course winds through an extensive plain of sand, with heather lined fairways and a persistent wind blowing off the Solway Firth. Predominantly links, Powfoot’s final 3 holes are of a distinctly parkland nature, a legacy of the Victory Garden that was cultivated here.

    The course provides an exceptional challenge with many challenging but rewarding holes, excellent greens of generous size and superb views across the Solway and out towards Criffel in the Dumfries & Galloway Region.

    A must play for experienced golfers visiting Dumfries & Galloway. Tee times must be booked in advance.

    Sanquhar Golf Club

    Sanquhar Golf Club is a good quality 9 hole town golf course set in the lush rolling hillside of northern Dumfries & Galloway and offering superb views of the surrounding countryside.

    This attractive golf course lies in undulating fields above the River Nith. To the east of the course is the historic small town of Sanquhar itself, and the course nestles in typical Southern Upland scenery where rolling hills rise to the massive Lowthers.

    This is a course that’s well worth playing, offering some challenging par 4s, but remaining accessible for all abilities of golfer, including families and beginners.

    The welcoming clubhouse faces Glenmaddie and the upper reaches of the Euchan Valley. Visitors are made very welcome, booking is usually not necessary, and golfing parties are accepted if prior arrangements are made with the club.

    Southerness Golf Club

    Southerness Golf Club, designed by McKenzie Ross this renowned Championship golf course is Dumfries & Galloway’s flagship links course, enjoying an idyllic location with panoramic views of the Solway Firth, the Lake District and the Galloway Hills to the west as you play.

    This is a true Championship Links course, measuring 6728 yards from the white (Championship) tees. The terrain is level allowing for easy walking with no hills to climb, and its brilliant design engenders a feeling of remoteness and solitude, where you are seldom aware of others on the course, thus providing a real escape from the stresses of daily life.

    Situated on a stunning stretch of the Solway Firth, Southerness has had the honour of staging many leading tournaments including the Scottish Amateur Championship, the Scottish Ladies’ Championship and the British Ladies’ Championship. The course has featured in Golf Monthly’s list of top 100 courses in Britain and Ireland each year since 1990, while Golf World ranked Southerness as the sixth best value course in Britain and Ireland

    For the low and experienced mid-handicapper golfer, Southerness golf course is a must play.

    St Medan Golf Club

    Scotland’s most southerly golf course, situated on the shores of Luce Bay, St Medan Golf Club offers an interesting and challenging game for novices and experienced golfers alike.

    A special feature of St Medan golf course is that there are 18 tees playing to 9 holes, making optimum use of the hilly peninsula with its wonderful scenery and panoramic sea views, and giving the golfer new challenges and options on each 9 hole round.

    This is a family friendly, informal golf club and during the week tee time availability is normally very good, however to ensure you get a game it is worth booking. Golfing parties are very welcome and catering is available by arrangement. A choice of 18 holes, day and weekly tickets are available. Parties and outings are most welcome.

    Light refreshments and snacks are available in the beautifully situated clubhouse which overlooks Luce Bay. On a clear day you can see the Mountains of Mourne in Ireland, and on a sunny day it’s difficult to beat this course.

    Stranraer Golf Club

    Stranraer Golf Club is the final course designed by James Braid; the culmination of his many years of outstanding golf course design. This is a course that’s worth making time to play, beautifully designed with a prevailing wind from the sea and some real testing holes.

    Stranraer presents a true challenge for the better golfer, with excellent facilities and an immaculate course. The warm wash of the Gulf Stream provides this part of Scotland with a remarkably mild climate, making play possible on all but a handful of days.

    Situated on the shores of Loch Ryan, the 6308 yard parkland golf course is laid out on gently undulating ground with exceptional views over the loch to Ailsa Craig, the Isle of Arran and beyond.

    From an early morning coffee with a bacon roll to an evening meal, the welcoming clubhouse boasts excellent catering and panoramic views over the course and beyond.

    Booking is advisable in the summer. Golfing parties are accepted, maximum party size 60

    Thornhill Golf Club

    Thornhill Golf Club presents a mature blend of parkland and heathland with beautiful views of the picturesque Southern Uplands, this 18 hole golf course is the home course of European Tour pro and 1999 Ryder Cup team member Andrew Coltart.

    Over relatively level terrain the golf course provides a good test for all golfers with some challenging holes, and it’s likely to be particularly appealing to mid and low handicappers.

    Thornhill in Dumfries & Galloway is a picturesque town, with an excellent mix of accommodation, restaurants and cafes and independent retailers, close to Drumlanrig Castle, the stately home of the Duke of Buccleuch.

    During the week Thornhill Golf Course is relatively easy to get on to, although booking is advisable during the summer and weekends. Golfing parties are welcome with the only restriction on visitor tee times being competition days.

    Wigtown and Bladnoch Golf Club

    Wigtown and Bladnoch Golf Club is a very pleasant 9 hole golf course set in lush parkland just half a mile from Wigtown, Scotland’s National Book Town.

    This 9 hole parkland golf course is a good test of golf for players of all abilities and it’s a haven for those seeking relaxing golf and a friendly atmosphere, with magnificent views of Wigtown Bay and across the Solway Firth to the Lake District hills.

    During the week it is relatively easy to get on to the course as visitors tee times are not restricted, although booking is advisable in the summer and at weekends. Golfing parties are welcome but must be booked in advance.

     

    Wigtownshire County Golf Club

    Wigtownshire County Golf Club is a true links golf course on the shores of scenic Luce Bay, this is a relatively level, easily walked course that extends an exceptionally warm welcome to visitors.

    The excellent condition of the golf course, combined with the subtly sloping greens and the changing sea breezes, provide a fine test of golf for both high and low handicappers. There are three short holes, 14 par fours, one par five and a large practice area next to the first tee.

    The County golf course is one of the most popular holiday golf courses in Dumfries & Galloway. The excellent course drainage and the very mild climate means the course is playable year round, with great value winter membership offers reflecting this seasonal appeal.

    The County welcomes all visiting parties and because of its popularity during the summer months it is advisable to book early to avoid possible disappointment. There is a good range of equipment, trollies and buggies available for hire. Golfing parties and tee times should be booked in advance.

  • Portpatrick Dunskey Golf Club

    Portpatrick Golf Course, known as Dunskey is one of Scotland`s Top 100 Golf Courses. It is also one of the most spectacular golf courses in South West Scotland.

    There are actually two courses here. Dunskey is the 18 hole course which has a cliff-stop location and stunning views. This is a Par 70 course.

    There is also the Dinvin Course at Portpatrick Golf Club which is a 9 hole. Dinvin is Par 3 and is popular with families. Booking is not generally required on the Dinvin Course but is strongly recommended for Dunskey.

    Portpatrick Golf Club has a spectacular cliff top setting beside the first section of the Southern Upland Way. The view from the 13th tee is particularly awesome as it looks down over Sandeel Bay.

    Visitors are welcome to warm up down on the driving range area, use the practice putting facilities or play a few holes on the Dinvin Course prior to their game on Dunskey.

    Portpatrick Golf Course has two PGA Professionals available for coaching and advice. There is a well stocked pro shop. Equipment and buggies are available for hire.

    Visitors are most welcome at both courses.

    The clubhouse has a well stocked bar and excellent catering facilities which provide good value food.
