Positioned in the heart of Southern Scotland this beautiful Georgian Rectory (or Scottish manse) serves as a wonderful holiday home for groups looking for self-catering family holidays in Scotland. Located on the edge of Galloway Forest Park, known affectionately as the ‘highlands of the lowlands’ it’s a fantastic spot to explore some of the most breathtaking scenery this region has to offer.
Originally the seat of a Presbyterian Minister, this elegant and beautifully presented country home has been sympathetically restored with period furniture, hosting features including original woodwork, fireplaces and ceiling cornicing.
Due to its remoteness, Galloway Forest Park has been awarded the status of being one of only four Dark Sky Parks in the western world. This means when the sun sets you’ll literally have the universe within your sights, witnessing the birth of new suns to distant planets and making wishes upon a shooting star. We feel this holiday home should certainly be one for the bucket list!
A light and spacious entrance hall with polished wood floors and wide balustrade staircase leading up to a wide first floor landing. The main reception rooms lead off on either side; the drawing room is of good proportion and high ceiling with open fire and floor to ceiling sash windows overlooking well-tended lawns. The second less formal reception room is a favourite with the children, with comfortable sofas and armchairs, a woodburner stove, games chest and Sky TV. The three piece exotic prints in this room hint at the owners’ travels to far flung places and make a good conversation piece on travel and natural habitats in other countries. The wood panelled study is a space for quiet reflection and offers desk space & comfortable leather chairs, ideal for getting started on that book you’d always said you’ll write.
The kitchen is a large, airy space with a spotlessly clean electric companion aga with gas range perfectly suited to cooking for a group of twelve. Shaker style cabinets provide plenty of storage space, there’s a Downton Abbey style double butler sink and the copper worktops are frankly a dream to prep food on. All in all this kitchen is a lovely space to prepare meals. There’s an adjoining breakfast room with large farmhouse table and bench seats and a door leads directly out into the garden.
