Description

Welcome to The Marks, 3 star Bed and Breakfast

Set in the glorious Galloway countryside, surrounded by quiet lanes, hills and beaches, The Marks extends you a warm welcome in the farmhouse which dates back to the 16th century.

Bed & Breakfast is Scottish Tourist Board 3 star rated.

The Marks, which dates back to the 16th century, is reputed to be the dower house for McLellan’s Castle in Kirkcudbright.

The farmhouse, with log fires roaring in the Study and Drawing room, is set in a large rambling old world garden through which you are welcome to wander.  Surroundings are tranquil and peaceful, nights are stunningly starlit.

Cars are safely parked on the gravel drive at the front of the house; bikes can be stored in one of the outbuildings.

In the farmhouse we offer Bed and Breakfast, with dinner in the evening if you wish, all good home cooking using our great local produce.

The bedrooms pleasantly situated with views over the garden and Galloway countryside, are all comfortably furnished, including hospitality trays.

Peaceful surroundings and an idyllic base for golfing, walking, cycling and riding. Galloway is “Scotland’s best kept secret”! Kirkcudbright which is only four miles down the road, is a renowned artists’ colony, painters being drawn by the Solway scenery and the pure quality of the light.

The town boasts several galleries exhibiting local artists, with specialist jewellers and exclusive dress and gift shops, and plenty of places to eat out.

It’s a lovely old town with fishing boats tied up at the harbour watched over by the ruin of McLellan’s Castle in the town centre. Galloway is a world recognised ‘dark skies‘ area, and the Marks is ideally located four miles out of town to give wonderful bright starlit night skies, when our Scottish weather allows.

The Marks is a working upland farm, with dairy cows milked twice daily.

    Testimonials

"Mark Farm is a lovely place for a break. The House is cosy with welcoming fires and even more welcoming hosts in Sheila and Chris. The food is excellent - make sure you have plenty of room, as the portions are immense! A stay at the farm is a complete get away from it all. The farm is about 4-5 miles out of Kirkcudbright, so near enough to the town for people to sample all it has to offer, but far enough away that you can experience complete tranquillity and a complete break from light pollution! The bed was really comfortable and a good night was had by all."
