Grobdale of Girthon

Self Catering
Castle Douglas
Sleeps: 10

Nestled into the beautiful rolling Galloway hills in South West Scotland we are waiting to welcome you to Grobdale of Girthon and provide a tranquil escape . Either as your well deserved quiet relaxing R&R or a great base to explore more of our amazing surroundings.

The farm is 65 acres…

of pasture, hillside, river, wetlands and some woodland. We keep Herdwick sheep a Lakeland hardy breed, Tamworth pigs another tough heritage breed and various ducks, hens and guinea fowl.

The Farm is a happy relaxed fun farm with all our livestock outdoor reared, grown slowly to bring the best mature flavour to our meat and eggs.

We supply the best local restaurants with our produce and a few local small businesses and homes. Also we try to reduce our impact on the environment as much as possible by keeping our food miles small.

When we came to the farm we had earmarked three outbuildings to convert to holiday cottages.

The Dairy, The Croft and The Byre are beautiful stone single storey buildings with wonderful views of the surrounding hills and  valley.

We are very proud of the finished cottages and hope you will enjoy them and feel that you’ve made the same right choice as us to spend some time here in Galloway.

The Dairy Holiday Cottage,

Sleeps 4 in 2 sumptuous King Size Beds or Single beds.

There is a small flight of three steps up or down to each bedroom otherwise this cottage is all on one level.

Each bedroom has its own bathroom, one with a bath and shower, one with a walk in shower.

There is a large well equipped kitchen

with an electric eyelevel oven, microwave and a separate hob. A dishwasher, full height fridge freezer and an island dining area for good old fashioned quality family time meals.

The full height exposed beams in the ceiling give a traditional and airy feel to the

Living room that has

big comfy sofas with plenty of cushions and throws. A large smart TV and log burning stove to keep it warm and comfortable all year round.

Underfloor heating kept at an ambient temperature warms the rooms perfectly and since is powered by a ground heat source pump reduces our carbon footprint quite substantially.

The Byre Holiday Cottage,

Sleeps 4 in 2 sumptuous Super King Beds or Single beds There is a small flight of three steps up or down to each bedroom otherwise this cottage is all on one level. Each bedroom has its own bathroom, both with  walk in showers.

There is a large well equipped kitchen

with an electric eyelevel oven, microwave and a separate hob. A  dishwasher, full height fridge freezer and an island dining area for good old fashioned quality family time meals. The full height exposed beams in the ceiling give a traditional and airy feel to the

The Croft Holiday Cottage

Sleeps 2 in a sumptuous Super King or 2 Single beds

There are two entrances to this cottage one with steps and one with a paved slope. All inside is on one level and so this is

our most accessible dwelling.

The bathroom has a walk in shower.

There is a lovely light well equipped kitchen

with an electric eyelevel oven, microwave and a separate hob. A dishwasher, full height fridge freezer and an island dining area for romantic dinners for two. The full height exposed beams  give a traditional and airy feel to the

Living room that has

A big comfy sofa and a window seat  with plenty of cushions and throws. A good sized  smart TV and log burning stove will keep it warm and comfortable all year round.

Though underfloor heating kept at an ambient temperature warms the rooms perfectly and since is powered by a ground heat source pump reduces our carbon footprint quite substantially.

Each cottage is supplied with crisp white bed linen, plenty of luxurious fluffy towels, all your kitchen basics.

Tea towels, condiments, washing up liquid and dishwasher tablets , hand soap, tea, coffee and sugar, firewood and kindling.

There is also baby equipment and dog baskets available to borrow if you don’t have room in the car.

Outside you have your own designated parking spaces, a private paved seating area with fire-pit, sofas and an uninterrupted view of the hills. Stocked wood-store, outside taps and a bike store with washing area for your pooch, pedals or wellies.

We are a dog friendly holiday destination , but ask that pets are not kept in the bedrooms so that future guests with possible allergies are not affected.

There is a Laundry room at the end of the Byre that houses clothes washing and drying facilities that are free to use during your stay.
