Description

Burnside Cottage

Enjoy fabulous holidays in Dumfries and Galloway and stay with us from just £342 per week in 2019. (And it’s less than £600 per week in high summer).

Our 5-star cottage, Burnside, is a traditional, 19th century farm workers’ house. It is located a mile from the sea in a tranquil valley in an area known locally as The Machars.

The Machars peninsula juts out into the Solway Firth at the southern-most tip of Scotland. It is a hidden gem at the heart of Old Galloway. And when you stay with us, it’ll just be you, the wildlife and the view.

Fabulous Holidays in Dumfries and Galloway

Discover the beaches, coves, rock pools, hikes and mountain biking in this little known area of Scotland. Take a tour of the universe stargazing in the Galloway Forest Dark Sky Park. Challenge yourself on Scotland’s longest zip wire, paddle-boarding, rock pooling, climbing, or sailing…

The Cream O’Galloway ice cream centre and Cocoabean chocolate factory are brilliant for treating the children, or lose yourself in Wigtown, Scotland’s National Book Town. Marvel at the spectacular gardens of south west Scotland and then sample the delicious food Dumfries and Galloway has to offer, (as well as the whisky, beer and gin!). And tuck in to tasty pubs in the port villages of The Machars…

From youngsters through to tweens, families, couples and friends, there is something for everyone.

If you choose to stay in, you will discover the abundance of wildlife that lives around Burnside. More than 20 species of birds have been spotted at the cottage. Meanwhile, deer visit the garden. In addition, voles and weasels patrol the rockery at the back. And look out for the otter in the stream.

The LoveGalloway blog on our website, www.gloriousgalloway.org, provides more information and inspiration. This will help you make the most of your stay and enjoy fabulous holidays in Dumfries and Galloway.

A Cosy Holiday Cottage in Dumfries and Galloway

Burnside has an open plan kitchen/diner/living room that creates a warm communal feel. It is enhanced by the log fire in our wood-burning stove, which pumps out the heat on cool evenings. There’s even an unlimited supply of wood for you to use.

Burnside Cottage comfortably sleeps five people in three bedrooms.

At one end of the cottage the master bedroom has a double bed, while at the other there are twin and single bedrooms. There is a cot and and camping bed, if required. All the bedrooms have built in wardrobes.

You’ll find the cottage has everything you’ll need for a comfortable stay, such as dishwasher, washer/dryer, microwave, electric cooker, giant lobster pan, cot, high chair, freeview TV, DVD player with films and box sets, binoculars, guide books, maps and lots and lots of information about the local area.

The main room opens out onto an enclosed garden and patio at the back, which is drenched by sunlight  in the evening. We are steadily stocking our rockery with weed resistant plants(!), which bring a splurge of colour in the summer and autumn. In the morning, the sunshine flows down the across the fields at the front and floods the house with light.

Outside, the half-acre site is fully enclosed. It is perfect for those with young children and great for a game of hide and seek. At the back, you can enjoy a glass of wine and a barbecue on the patio and small lawn, while listening to the yellowhammers call out their song in the early evening.
