Sandhead is an ideal location for exploring the local area or just going to the beach on your doorstep! The village has a well stocked shop, good pub (Tigh na Mara) which serves excellent food and a children's playpark only a short stroll from Auld Schoolhouse

Wigtownshire is renowned for its beaches, many of which are often secluded and deserted and its gardens, the most famous of which is Logan Botanic, being warmed by the Gulf Stream, it is home to many exotic plants and the Potting Shed Bistro. The small fishing village of Portpatrick with its picturesque harbour is only 20 minutes drive from Sandhead and has a good selection of restaurants, some of which serve food all day, it is also the starting point for the Southern Upland Way, a splendid walk with wonderful views. Mull of Galloway, the most southerly point in Scotland is a 20 minute drive from Sandhead where you will find the lighthouse, RSPB reserve and Gallie Craig tearoom.
