Linking to

We all know the how important links are for promoting your site to search engines. Just to test this out try typing “click here” into a search engine. The number one spot will be held by Adobe Reader because they sent out thousands upon thousands of links asking you to “click here” to update your software. From this you can see how important the link text should be.

A typical link will look something like this <a href=”” target=”_blank”></a>

Of course what you will actually see on your page is this – the part of the code “target=”_blank” just tells the browser to open the link in a new page.

Taking note of the above it is far better for search engines to provide the link text as words that would be searched on.

Then link would be much more effective written like this :-

< a href=”” target=”_blank”>Accommodation in Dumfries and Galloway</a>

On your web site the link would look like this:- Accommodation in Dumfries and Galloway

Please link to our site; you can use the above code or make changes to it. For instance you might prefer the link text to be “hotels in Dumfries and Galloway” or “Guest Houses in Castle Douglas”.

Links are important they need not be placed in a prominent position so you can join with other businesses to exchange links and promote your site.

You might have the knowledge and confidence to add a link to the visitsouthwestscotland web site to your site. If not please get your web site designer to do it or ask us for help and we will do our best to advise.
